Avery Lewis, of Dorchester, faces 10 charges from the 9:30 p.m. shooting in Mattapan, Boston police announced on Tuesday.
The officer, whose name was not released, responded to a 911 call near the intersection of Esmond and Bradshaw Streets to reports of a man armed with a gun in the area.
Police approached the man who fired a single shot and hit one of them in the chest. The officer is expected to survive, WCVB reported.
Lewis is charged with
- Unlawful possession of a firearm
- Unlawful possession of ammunition
- Unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device
- Armed assault to murder
- Assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (firearm)
- Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building
- Assault and battery on a police officer
- Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Trafficking of cocaine, 36 grams or more, less than 100 grams
- Resisting arrest
He was expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
The injured officer has been with the Boston Police Department for two years, the report said.
